Italian, International Manager | PhD

Dreams coming true, the PhD and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Sometimes dreams become true.
It was never-ending year, started with the TOEFL Test (ETS, Milano) and ended with an amazing party on the sea, the friend ever.
Strongly interested about US Nearshoring Subjects, I started studying and working on Supply Chain Strategy, aside the Japanese Director Nobuyuki Tamaru; fascinated by Prof. Jim Rice from Boston MIT, I decided to start the long PhD path, living in Italy, nearby the UNIVPM of Ancona, and in the United States of America, nearby the Boston MIT.
My focus area was to study the Post-Globalization scenario, achieve a deep understanding about the Supply Chain Adaptivity into Strategy; a short summary follows:

-Executive Track in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Strategy, Agreement with JMAC Europe
-Involved in a Supply Chain Strategy Project for Intel Company
-Lecturer, Supply Chain Adaptability, GC-LOG MIT Scale Network Program, hosted by Roberto Perez-Franco
-Italian Academic Advisors: Fattori-Tamaru (references JMAC Europe, JMAC Japan), Paone-Bevilacqua (UNIVPM)
-American Academic Advisors: Rice (MIT-CTL Director), subject: Supply Chain Nearshoring, turned to Reg-Shoring
-American Project Supervisors: Perez-Franco and Phadnis (MIT-CTL), subject: Supply Chain Adaptability
-Supply Chain Strategy Courses: “Driving Strategic Advantages” (MIT-CTL, for Executives)
-Attended “Crossroads 2014” Conference, hosted by MIT-CTL
-MIT became as Official in my PhD European Comittee, through an International Agreement

JMAC: Japanese consulting, walking around the world

Japanese “lean thinking” was not finished yet: I joined into JMAC Europe, the most important Japanese Firm in Management Consulting Industry, based in Tokyo and operating in Europe through the Milan’s office, the Official European Headquarter.
High pressure, multi-tasking view and no-hours Schedule made this job hard and rough; even if I have been living fast, I met wonderful people, I learned a lot, I got a sense of satisfaction never had before and moreover I had great opportunities to learn.
Even if my friends might say I am crazy, yes, I claim “I definitely had fun”. My experience has so been mixed as listed here below:
-Industries: mainly across Manufacturing Industries, such as Luxury, Electronics, Plastics, Wellness, Furnitures, Consumer&Durable Goods, Automotive (n-tier), Transportations, Food, Alluminium, Machinery, Chemicals, Pharma and Cosmetics
-Project Areas: Lean Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Methodologies, Manufacturing Strategy and Global Supply Chain Management and Business Process Re-Engineering
-Countries: Italy, Sweden, France, Seychelles, Spain
-Also worked aside JMAC Japan and JMAC Scandinavia
-Focus Group: Supply Chain Team, Operations Division
-Been Lecturer at University of Bologna, Supply Chain Strategy Course (Prof. Barbieri and Prof. Zanoni) since 2013
-Internal Academy: “Kart Factory” (LIUC 2010, Turin 2011, Barcelona 2013, LIUC 2014, LIUC 2016), “Service Factory” (LIUC 2012), JMAC Europe CAMP (Como 2010, Varese 2012), TPM Specialist Course (Turin 2011, Turin 2015), web publication (about “Lean Thinking Principles and TWI”, SetupImpresa, 2010, read it here), internal publications (about “Zero Defects Methodology” with A. Chiavus, 2012, about “Value Stream Mapping” and “Work Method” with G. Zanaria), worked and learned a lot aside the Japanese Director, Nobuyuki Tamaru, and having met Akira Koudate, JMAC Europe founder
-Leveled Up: 2013 (Consultant), 2015 (Associate), 2017 (Manager)
-Training: in Japan, during JMAC Japan Operations Camp (Tokyo, Fall 2015)
-Presentations: “Reshoring: from Globalization to Regionalization” (Milan, June 2016), here

Post Graduate Studies

After June 2009, I wanted to define and expand my whole profile: I studied IELTS test of English and I achieved the Advanced Level under British Council Final Test, attended in Bologna (BO), through Oxford ESOL standards; I also prepared the Italian Final Test of Engineering: after 4 steps in Bologna (BO), I have been a member of the Italian National Border of Engineers, class A, Sector Industrial Engineering, since that time, it was year 2010.
Moreover, I applied for ISTAO Business School, Ancona (AN): once accepted, I also managed to gain a scholarship supplied by ISTAO Partners; what is ISTAO? ISTAO Business School is the oldest Italian Business School, and it was founded by Prof. Giorgio Fuà, according to Adriano Olivetti and to the CRN. The Institute also collaborate with the most prestigious World Universities (i.e. Harvard and MIT).
Therefore I studied what I have been missing: Economics. Then, I had been working for TeamSystem, Pesaro (PU) and Desi Mobili Srl, Fabriano (AN). At the end of the Master I got a final internship in Consulgroup, Ancona (AN), a medium size consultancy company, collaborating with PE funds and operating in the middle of Italy, mainly concerning Restructuring: I became a “Lean Agent”.
In the same time, I managed to be admitted to spend 1 year at the Boston’s MIT (MA, USA), with the guide of professors Jim Rice: burocracy and organizational issues did not let me leave.
Since that, my dream would have been called a 3 letters word: “MIT”

University Years in Bologna

I have been attending BSc in Industrial Engineering from 2003 to 2007. My final dissertation titled: “Quality System Analysis: the Gatto Kitchens Spa case”; during these years, I focused my studies across Industrial Engineering, working small Italian companies. I won’t regret that choice ever, even if it was hard.
During MSc, my approach was broader in term of interests, such as the New Economy Industry, the Renowables Industry (then, in 2010, I would have been interviewed by “the Space of Politics”, through ENEL about the Nuclear Debate in Italy: read the interview) and the Digital Technologies. Above all, I got fascinated by the “Lean Thinking”, the famous Industrial Management Japanese System.
Therefore, I prepared a long final dissertation, where I could learn directly from the field. I worked on a subject I finally titled as follows: “Flux analysis, re-layout and assessment of production mix enlargement”; I approached on Supply Chain Management and Operations mainly: results were more than I have been hoping (listed top 7% on AAA 2008-2009) and my work has been published in the University’s database (see that clicking here: http://amslaurea.cib.unibo.it/477/).
Again, it was time to decide. Or maybe not yet.

University Years in Bologna

High School Time

Born in Ancona, March 1984, growing in my hometown and attending the Public Scientific Liceum “Luigi di Savoia”, sited in Ancona (AN); meanwhile I early got experienced some months abroad (London and Dublin) to study English. Partecipated to several competitions such as Latin’s Games, Math’s Olympics and Bocconi ELEUSI Games- passed the final examination with the highest marks, I also won the CONI/Panathlon prize 2001 as “student athlete”.
It was definitely time to move: I picked Alma Mater Studiorum, the oldest University in all over the world, the University of Bologna, Bologna (BO).
